Welcome to the Video Archive.

Below is some quite amazing video footage from New Zealand's history.

These have come with thanks from Archives New Zealand.

This is fantastic footage of the power industry in New Zealand.

We hope you enjoy watching these short documentaries and we will continue to add more relevant industry archive video as it becomes available

1949 - Hydro-Electric Power - Maraetai

HYDRO-ELECTRIC POWER.... MARAETAI Dramatic and suspenseful film record of the all-out effort to divert New Zealand's longest river, the Waikato, in one day during the building of one of the country's biggest electric power stations.

1964 - Hydro-Electric Station - Benmore

Selwyn Toogood visits Benmore hydro-electric station on the Waitaki River in the South Island, New Zealand's biggest engineering project. He talks to some of the engineers, workmen and housewives.

1966 - Inter-Island Power

Building the transmission line that carries electricity to the North Island from Benmore on the Waitaki River. The film follows the cables slung from tower to tower, across Canterbury, through Molesworth to Fighting Bay. There they are lowered to the sea bed to cross Cook Strait to Haywards substation, where the final connection is made that raises the North Island's peak capacity by 40 percent. (Documentary version of The First Half-million-Volt D.C. Transmission Line.)
